Pollo Chipotle Tacos

Lily Of The Village

...A successful dish all around, the oxtails were properly tender, flavor, and juicy, accented by the texture of its bits of barely toothsome cartilage and the slivers of fat that just evaporated on the tongue. The rice and beans were light, fluffy and aromatic, and the slaw was crisp, tangy tart with vinegar, and cool.... [Full Post]

Achin' For Jamaican

...I got to enjoy a most excellent meal, enjoying meats layered with flavors from obvious hours of slow cooking with a wide array of spices, infusing the both the tender juicy chicken and slide-of-the-bone oxtail meat with hearth, heartiness, and heart.... [Full Post »]

Mofon-Good

....I was impressed with the flavor of the monfongo, richly layered, sweet and garlicky savory, and every forkful extremely filling. The chicharrones were tasty as well, although I was hoping to get much the textural dichotomies usually associated with roast pork items: lean tender meat, a layer of flavor fat, and a "stickly" crispy skin. The skin had very little crispiness to it at all.... [Full Post]

"Chip" On The Ol' Block

...And it was quite good! Lots of flavor, great textures, juicy pork, toothsome black beans, crisp lettuce; it all worked together surprisingly well—and not just for fast food—and was plentiful enough to excuse the $8 price tag (over $10 with the addition of guacamole).... [Full Post]

Getting My Fill

...The hot dogs were excellent, with casings that snapped loudly through the top of my head with each bite and clear juices full of the layers of its seasonings as spices. The eggplant relish was bright and earthy and a good compliment to the plain hot dog, while a drizzle of sriracha sauce added extra zing on top of the jalapeños that flicker the front and back of my tongue.... Si, Si!

...so I ordered a quarter of a tasty, juicy, nicely seasoned, and crackly-skinned chicken with a side of aromatic yellow rice and savory red beans. It comes with a bright and kicky herbal sauce, and for 12 bucks, including tip, I got a hot meal—more than I could finish—in quick time.... [Full post]

Lunch With The Greeks

...Another successful dish, plump soft dumpling, stuffed with a soft, mellow but "rustic" cheese, buoyed by the rich, just slightly citrusy tomato sauce, grounded by some homey greens, and heightened by the kick in the very tender spicy sausage, which, again, Leo handled with aplomb... Big Apple Barbecue Block Party

...Okay, let me just make this whole post a lot easier. Except where otherwise noted, everything I ate today at the BABBP was outstanding! I would use words like tasty, yummy, smokey, tender all throughout this post, and I fear their repetitiveness would only detract from the main point of me relating what an overall a "great ol' time" I had 'cueing it up in the middle of Manhattan with Marcy.... The Early Bird

...The vinaigrette also added nuance to the earthy, herbal chicken meat, brightening the meat's flavor with its hits of vinegar, as the red pepper flakes balanced the natural sweetness of the green beans and woke up the corners of my mouth, like a jolt of coffee, preparing me for the rest of my day... Quick Post | He's Got Legs

...Later, I placed the legs in a large casserole, spooning the remaining sauce on top, and placed them in a preheated oven. Meanwhile, I emptied a can of black beans into a small pot, adding some liquid smoke (available in most supermarkets), worchestshire sauce, soy sauce, sriracha sauce, brown sugar, salt and pepper, stirring them on low heat while preparing white rice.... Burger One; Other Diners, Zero

...As Gina and I enjoyed our respective repasts at the counter—amount to less than 20 bucks including her soda and my chocolate egg cream—new customers started streaming in at a steady clip, seemingly regulars who each seemed to have a favorite—or several—from its large menu that offers hot and cold sandwiches, wraps, and entrées such as a Gyro Platter, Onion Steak, and Fried Chicken.... Thai'd Up

...This is a favorite of mine, with so may tastes—spicy, sweet, savory, acid—and textures, the only disappoint was the name of the dish, which fraudulently suggests that I would get to enjoy more than one! I can concede that point as well since I do appreciate the modest yet filling proportions, especially when it tastes sooo good.... [Full post]

Frankly, My Dear....

...Not as rich, thick, or even sweet as traditional baked beans, these had as many tastes, if more subtle, and because of the shorter cooking time, the beans kept much of their firm texture while still being able to absorb much of the garlic's flavor, as well as the hints of mustard and tarragon. A nice, hot, stick-to-your-ribs dish—without being heavy—and a nice compliment to an otherwise cold, rainy winter afternoon.... [Full post]
