Pollo Chipotle Tacos

Mom's Restaurant

...This was a surprising success in flavors and textures; the brightened, slightly fruity pearls of molasses balanced out the slight minerality of the gizzards, parboiled to a pliable firmness and coated in crunchy cormeal breading, while still toothsome kernels of sweet corn popped among some creamy grits, accentuated by just a hint of white cheddar cheese.... Hungary For Dessert

...The real sweetness would come, however, from the thicker-than-brulée shell topping of caramel (some off it seeping into the cake during baking), with its clean, deep sweetness and it's "crackling" texture. Some leftover fresh raspberries from Monday's breakfast that I tossed on top put the whole thing, well, over the top.... [Full post]

Like A Good Neighbor

...The side salad of arugula, fresh basil, cherry tomatoes and shaved parmesan was a perfect compliment to the dish, as was the wonderful glass of white wine, an Argentinian torrontés of bright, subtle citrus, apricot, and peach, with herbal hints, a nice "weight" (it doesn't "coat" the inside of your mouth), and finishing clean enough that you can still enjoy the flavors of whatever you're eating.... Hester Street Flair

... As I fought back figurative fears, the others welcomed the invitation to frenzy feed, making quick work of all macaroons, popcorn, and chocolate-covered bacon. I was able to save a slice for myself, and decided I would only give up one bite of my Porchetta sandwich, since I knew it would be the first thing I'd want to eat once I got hungry again.... ... Truly, the Brussel sprouts are purposefully on this pie, not as a parlor trick or gimmick, but to surprise you with the extra punch of flavor that is its charred leaves, all at once herbal, woodsy, and—maybe because of the sugars in the leaves—sweeter and less bitter than its always yummy un-charred parts.... Happy Birthday, "Trixie"!

...Some I came up with a lush, rich, and sexy recipe for Red Velvet Cake Ice Cream—with Icing! which, although not having enough time to properly set, tasted wonderful, chocolatey, creamy, without being sugary sweet, helped along not only by the drizzle of icing (made from milk, heavy cream, powdered sugar and cream cheese) but by the cookies her mom had made for her birthday as well....[cont.]

Overthrill, Pt. 2

...The cream (oh, boy!) almost pudding-like; sweet, rich, thick—but not heavy—creamy, tasty, a wining compliment to the fried dough, and a moist way to assist in swallowing bit mouthfuls of that cooked dough down one's grateful gullet.... [cont.
