Dive Into The Seahorse Tavern

...The Seahorse Tavern represents a long overdue post for real adults to chow down on some down-home chowder, sling back some raw Blue Point oysters with a pint of Blue Moon Belgian Wheat Ale, or enjoy Basque-style mussels and lemon sole with a friend or date over a bottle of moschofilero from Greece.... Cod | The Seafood Tavern

Oh. Mah. Jong!

....My favorites were the Spanish Breakfast (you had me at "chorizo", then kept me at "runny, poached egg"!), and the Run Forrest, with its simple prep, letting the shrimp flavor flow through the tender, only slightly toothsome dumpling skin, complimented nicely by the mellowed citrus kick of the tomato salsa, and needing only the smallest dip into the the side dipping sauce.... Outdoor (De)Lighting

... Again, though, this place, with its almost Alice in Wonderland ambience, is a place where the food supports a bigger idea. It's located right next to a megaplex and conveniently located near several large and small office buildings. You would celebrate birthdays here, or grab a quick plate before catching that 8:10 movie. This is a place where you bring the one you like on the date right before you get serious. It is the theoretical appetizer for what should be the meal of a greater, good time.... [Full post]

Overthrill, Pt. 1

...It was a little after 2 p.m. and the place gets crowded pretty quickly with just a handful of customers, as it did as I finished my second slice and worried that I had, again, cut my eating agenda short, having left scant room in my tummy for zeppoles of any kind (or the Brendan-recommended cream puffs that Led Zeppole seems to also be famous for).... Crustacean Determination

...The crispy noodle, to me, were the coup of this dish, bigger toasted crumbs on the outside provide loud crunch from the beginning to the end of each bite. The sriracha sauce was also a great success, with that chili-garlic heat that starts with a sweeping hit a heat, mellows out by the back off the mouth, and finishes like a flower through the nose. The herbs cool and crisp, cleansing the end of each forkful. And the crab cakes, fortunately, delicated seasoned enough to still taste all the crab goodness, although I couldn't help thinking how much better these could have been with lump crab meat, those delicious firm, flavorful lumps being a cap highlight, and star, of the dish.... Yo Quiero Cascabel!

...A silver tray carrying my gorditas were soon carried out to my table and immediately impressed me with their very appetizing presentation. The corn "buns" warm toasty warm and aromatic. The pork belly was especially nice since they retained the ration of lean pork to fatty pork that I like. I prefer a little more lean since, as opposed to other proteins, lean pork has plenty of flavor itself.... [cont.]
