Look Out, Ol' Macky's Back!

...but the pleasure of the McRib is having it take me back to a time when I didn't know of or care about truffles, or omega-8s, or "locally-sourced"; the boneless pork sammy is delicious enough to pay no mind to this mess you're bound to make. It is the White Castle slider experience on steroids, without having to be drunk or stoned to truly enjoy.... [Full Post]

"...And even though I am admittedly a recent convert to enjoy having a warm runny egg yolk over any number of foods, even here, the egg was not the extracurricular afterthought I've accused it of becoming on many a cooking show; the yolks' silkiness tethered the acidity of the pickled, crispy, julienned vegetables, so every bite finished harmoniously...." Getting My Fill

...The hot dogs were excellent, with casings that snapped loudly through the top of my head with each bite and clear juices full of the layers of its seasonings as spices. The eggplant relish was bright and earthy and a good compliment to the plain hot dog, while a drizzle of sriracha sauce added extra zing on top of the jalapeños that flicker the front and back of my tongue.... Seasonally Bipolar

...The jalepeño·barbecue burger dog was a bit more of a revelation, if only in the dressing. I had never made that before, but after the first few bites of its smoky, tangy, sweet, and creamy properties—heightened by the acidic heat of the jalapeños, I immediately started to imagine all other future applications for it. I promise, this dressing will make a return!... [Full post]

Big Apple Barbecue Block Party

...Okay, let me just make this whole post a lot easier. Except where otherwise noted, everything I ate today at the BABBP was outstanding! I would use words like tasty, yummy, smokey, tender all throughout this post, and I fear their repetitiveness would only detract from the main point of me relating what an overall a "great ol' time" I had 'cueing it up in the middle of Manhattan with Marcy.... Letters From Home

...The chopped lettuce with carrots then got mixed with a teaspoon of mustard, red wine vinegar, lemon juice, salt, pepper, and honey. Two slices of toasted cornbread slices got smeared with mayo with cider vinegar stirred in, the slices of tomatillas sautéed in butter, the BBQ bacon slices, and slaw, with the pea salad spooned on the side.... Southern Hospitality

...Again, happiness. The meat was near fall-of-the-bone yet still plenty tender, brushed with a tangy, sweet, spicy sauce, with hints of chili powder and garlic in the seasoning and a touch of vinegar, enough to wake up the inside of my cheeks.... [Full post]

Too Much Of A Good Thing

...The lightly buttered, toasted bread a more than capable dais on which to perch its tasty ingredients. The shrimp was prepared perfectly, firm but not tough. The cooling crab was nicely flaky and lumpy and full of deep sea taste. The lobster was so fresh you it took us out of the city and somewhere where sea mists cooled off our faces.... [Full post]

Luke's Is On A Roll

...Save a few gems, dining in his area was serviceable at best, offering a paucity of variety in types of cuisine and too many inconsistent purveyors if each. I was getting tired of having to travel down to the Lower East Side/East Vilalge for authentic dishes of arepas, currywurst, Italian roast pork, artisinal pizza, a decent plate of meatballs, and, yes, a yummy lobster roll... Midtown South(ern)

...the brisket was juicy, really tender and full of beefy flavor. The ribs were served well by their peppery spice rib, letting the pork flavor eventually shine through with just enough saltiness to get all of my taste buds enjoy the fun. The sausage's taut skin happily snapped to reward me with a nicely seasoned, almost crumbly meaty interior dribbling with its own rendered fats.... [Full post]

Bee Minus

...It was all passable at best. It had some great aromas when I first removed the container's lid, but once I dug into the dish, I had to check the menu to make sure I had ordered the right thing. Of the rice bowl options, I had chosen one of the two spiciest dishes, but there was very little heat heat or spice to it.... [cont.]

Luke's Is On A Roll

...I was first impressed with the impact of genuine Maine lobster flavor, even with it seeming to be minimally seasoned, though seasoned quite properly. The tail and claw meat chunks were firm yet tender, moist, and were well served by an evenly and lightly toasted bun, and an extra dash (after a few bites) of their "secret" seasoning, cutely contained in a lobster claw-shaped dispenser....
