Raining, Katz('s), And Dogs

...The dual textures was a novel thrill, as was the different spice and seasoning components in each of the salami slices. The firmer salami highlighted a slight tang of garlic and paprika, while the softer salami had a more subtle taste, letting the niblets of minced fat lead the flavor charge.... [Full Post »]

Return of the King

...New York City has provided its hungry masses its most iconic foods, such as the New York-style pizza slice (not even nearly replicated anywhere else in the U.S.) and the bagel. Add to the list the hot dog and you might have an accurate list of the most eaten items throughout all five boroughs.... [Full post]

Getting My Fill

...The hot dogs were excellent, with casings that snapped loudly through the top of my head with each bite and clear juices full of the layers of its seasonings as spices. The eggplant relish was bright and earthy and a good compliment to the plain hot dog, while a drizzle of sriracha sauce added extra zing on top of the jalapeños that flicker the front and back of my tongue.... "Shake" Wait

...The flattop-grilled, "squished", Pat Lafreida beef is still stellar—caramelizing to a slight crisp on the outside while flavorful juices ran clear from the moist interior—and topped off with an "crisp"-fried, earthy, plump portobello mushroom oozing with hot, sharp and mellow muenster and cheddar cheeses, which winds up being more of a treat than a necessity, but is charming nonetheless... Dogs Days of Summer

...Both were tasty; the Italian-themed one serving up some nice homey and familiar old world tastes, the other a cornucopia of textures, temperature, flavors, all of them brightly explosive, almost, with neither of the hotdogs' toppings overwhelming or masking the well-seasoned, snappy, juicy meat.... Frankly, My Dear....

...Not as rich, thick, or even sweet as traditional baked beans, these had as many tastes, if more subtle, and because of the shorter cooking time, the beans kept much of their firm texture while still being able to absorb much of the garlic's flavor, as well as the hints of mustard and tarragon. A nice, hot, stick-to-your-ribs dish—without being heavy—and a nice compliment to an otherwise cold, rainy winter afternoon.... [Full post]

All Hail The Other King!

...I helped myself to a "recession special", two dogs with a medium papaya juice, as I enjoyed the rewarding solace of a quick, cheap, and never disappointing meal.... [Full post]

A Burger That More Than Fits the Bill

...I started with the burger, which was, yes, bigger than the bun, and, although "smashed" (as Shake Shack does, and comparisons will be made between the two for months to come), was still beefy, juicy, loose, crumbly, and a little pink. The lettuce was crisp, and the bread held enough to not just hold up to the clear-running, hot burger juice, but my non-"fancified" condiments as well.... [cont.]
