Wafeler's Travels

..I took a quick look at the menu to refamiliarize myself with all of the yummy options, rendered immediately moot once I saw the BACON SYRUP WAFEL special scribbled on the chalkboard on the side of the truck! I ordered one while perusing the truck for the rest of its wares and watching the wafel-makers create other customer's dishes... [cont.]



A Burger That More Than Fits the Bill

...I started with the burger, which was, yes, bigger than the bun, and, although "smashed" (as Shake Shack does, and comparisons will be made between the two for months to come), was still beefy, juicy, loose, crumbly, and a little pink. The lettuce was crisp, and the bread held enough to not just hold up to the clear-running, hot burger juice, but my non-"fancified" condiments as well.... [cont.]

... No pimply-faced, faux slacker "sandwich artists" here; the real art obviously happens in the kitchen, and the proof is in the ingredients' presentation, and in the exquisite smell of the place: more like a kitchen and less like a store. You Say, "Good Bao", I Say, "Hello!"

...Knowing full well I was going to check out this new place called Baoguette for lunch after the movie. Baoguette is the, I beleive, second endeavor of up-and-coming Vietnamese chef, Michael Bao Huynh, who also opened Bar Bao on West 82nd & Columbus. Baoguette has been getting a lot of press—in the food community—for its banh mí sandwich, having been touted as the best on many restaurant lists, food blogs, and menu search reviews.
