The India Next Door

As I am here in Barbados to soak up all of its awesomeness, the priority has been to greater expose myself to local life than to the more touristy attractions — though they all need the support.

Found out from my Barbados friend Sue that a friend of theirs nearby my apartment was reopening their Indian food home kitchen business, The Masala Grill, today, and that nearby friend, Nasim Degia, happens to live literally right next door to me.

Nasim sent me his full menu last night, giving me the chance to pre-order for curbside pickup today at three. I ordered a new menu item, the Indie-Lamb Roghan Josh burger platter (which comes with salad and seasoned masala fries), and paired it with his homemade mango lassi beverage.

The lamb was wonderfully flavorful, properly seasoned and complimented by the piquant and only slightly sweet sauce. The mango lassi still remains one of my favorite drinks ever, and the one that accompanied this meal epitomized why, with its fruity, creamy, cooling refreshment.

(I admit to needing to knife-and-fork the burger, as I was only a couple hours post-oral surgery. I though I would safely and gingerly suffer a bite or two, but it really was that good that I patiently powered through and savored happily every bite.)

So satisfied I was with this meal that I am pondering what I will probably order for tomorrow afternoon. And if anyone can get to the Dover, Maxwell area of the east coast and wants to try The masala Grill’s righteous food, I can message or WhatsApp you details, menus, and directions. (Finally some great cooking I don’t have to worry at all about over-extending myself physically for.)
