“Rad” Thai At My Local “Express"

Since I first saw this place, Lemongrass (and it’s satellite here, Lemongrass Express as part of my Google research before I even arrived here in Barbados, I was curious if it would be close to the Thai food I’ve come to love in NYC, or if it would be just a passable iteration meant to edify those unfamiliar with the unique cuisine.

Since being here, I’ve driven/walked by this Thai truck stand many times, vowing the next time I’m in the area — Worthing, Christ Church — I would try it out. That “next time” was today, and I was not disappointed.

I ordered a curry dish that even I hadn’t heard of, geang phed (possibly spelled gaeng phed), opting for the “red” version, with beef. Deeply layered with deep flavors — savory, spicy, umami — and slight hints of sweet from coconut milk and citrus.
