Kellogg's 'Taste Talks' with U.S. Olympians

Brooklyn, NYC — I had the great good fortune recently to be invited to an ongoing media event set up by the folks at Taste Talks where they've been pairing U.S Olympians with local noted chefs of major cities to come up with culinary creations using the wide variety of Kellogg's cereals.

This campaign's latest iteration occurred last week in Brooklyn, with a slate of video shoots that saw Olympian athletes (such as runner Ajee Wilson and swimmer Dara Torres) inspiring NYC chefs (like Black Seed Bagels head baker Dianna Daohueng) to concoct delicious bowl mash-ups using some of Kellogg's most popular cereals.

My favorite cereal growing up was Raisin Bran.
— DARA TORRES, 12-time U.S. Olympic Champion

I was fortunate enough to attend while 12-time medalist in swimming Dara Torres convened with Top Chef contestant Ron Duprat, as she told him of her favorite foods and the kind of breakfast she needs for her healthy lifestyle, and to appease her tastebuds.

It was great to hear Dara discuss her long, fond history with Kellogg's — starting from being a child to being the mother of a young daughter now — and explain how its always been an essential part of her family's diet and deliciously nutritional lifestyle.

12-time U.S. Olympic Medalist Dara Torres reveals how much Kellogg's cereal was a part of her life as a child, and how much it still is as the mother of a daughter and being in charge of what she eats. This is from a TASTE TALKS media event that paired U.S. Olympic athletes with top NYC-based chefs to come up with deliciously creative cereal dishes inspired by the athletes favorite foods.

Chef Ron Duprat proved his culinary acumen, by using Dara's influences and coming up with what he called The Banana Martini:

The Banana Martini

Ingredients:
Kellogg’s Raisin Bran
Kellogg’s Crispix

almond milk

½ cup fresh California strawberries
1 banana slice
1 cup Kellogg’s Raisin Bran
½ cup almond milk
1 tsp light brown sugar
1 tbsp almond butter
⅓ cup plain low-fat yogurt or vanilla low-fat yogurt

Obviously a beautiful-looking bowl, and delicious as well, according to Dara (and how quickly she went through it!).  Dara was a huge fan of the Banana Martini, even (half-jokingly?) asking Chef Ron is he could travel with her as her go-to personal chef.

Other Olympians in attendance thais day were men's swimmer Tom Shields, women's soccer player Julie Johnston, and paralympic discus thrower Natalie Bieule, as well as Chef Jonah Reider (who famously runs his Pitch restaurant from his college dorm room).

I am sure other deliciousness occurred with that impressive a lineup, and it's inspiring to me to see the Kellogg's brand, and our great local chefs, in such great support of our U.S. Olympians, and reminding of the many ways Kelogg's can keep our bodies healthier, while keeping our tastebuds happy.

[PS Just realized that I'm typing all this while — "for realz!" — eating a bowl for Kellogg's Vanilla Almond Special K.]
